HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball program, which is entering its first season under head coach Brandon Duvall, has released its 2016 schedule – a slate that includes four in-season tournaments before the start of MEAC play.
The Lady Pirates (3-22, 3-9 MEAC in 2015) will open the season on Aug. 27 in Philadelphia, Pa., competing in the Temple Invitational along with the host Owls and Northern Arizona in what will be the team’s longest trip of the season.
From there, Hampton will compete in the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. on Sept. 2-3, taking part in a tournament field that includes East Tennessee State, USC Upstate, and the host Flames.
North Carolina A&T and UNC Greensboro will co-host the Spartan-Aggie Invitational on Sept. 9-10; the Lady Pirates will take on the Aggies on Friday, before squaring off against Radford and the Spartans on Saturday.
The final in-season tournament will be on Sept. 16-17, when the Lady Pirates head to Fairfax, Va. for the George Mason Invitational. That field will include the host Patriots, as well as Loyola (Md.) and Bryant.
The George Mason Invitational will also mark the end of non-conference play for the Lady Pirates, as they will be in Baltimore, Md. on Sept. 23 and Sept. 25 for match-ups against Morgan State and Coppin State. From there, Hampton will be home for the first time in 2016 on Sept. 30, taking on Delaware State.
That match will kick off a string of four straight home matches; the Lady Pirates will also host Maryland Eastern Shore on Oct. 2, before welcoming Howard to Holland Hall on Oct. 7 and playing host to rival Norfolk State on Oct. 14.
After a quick trip to Princess Anne, Md. on Oct. 16 to take on UMES, Hampton will return home on Thursday, Oct. 20 to take on Morgan State.
Hampton will then have its home finale on Oct. 23 against Coppin State.
From there, the Lady Pirates will wrap up the regular season with three straight on the road, beginning with an Oct. 30 tilt at Howard in Washington, D.C. Hampton will then head to Dover, Del. on Nov. 4 to take on Delaware State, before wrapping up the regular season on Nov. 6 at Norfolk State.
The 2016 MEAC Volleyball Championships will be held in Princess Anne, Md. on Nov. 18-20.
