NSU's Megan Dunning Voted to All-State 2nd Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior Megan Dunning was voted Thursday onto the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Softball second team, the organization announced.

Dunning was selected to the all-state second team at the designated player/utility position. She had a career year in her final season for the Spartans this spring, batting .308 with a MEAC-leading 14 doubles in addition to four home runs and 30 runs batted in. Dunning led the Spartans in doubles, RBI and slugging percentage (.615) while striking out just five times in 98 at-bats. Two of her home runs were grand slams, coming in victories against Delaware State during the regular season and Morgan State in the MEAC tournament.

Dunning, a three-year letterwinner at NSU who transferred after playing her freshman year at Florence-Darlington Tech (S.C.), finished her career with a .275 average in 76 games with totals of 34 runs, 42 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 37 RBI and 21 walks.

The VaSID University Division all-state team recognize players from all Division I softball-playing institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. NCAA Super Regional participant James Madison took home three of the top four awards on the all-state softball team, with Jailynn Ford winning Player of the Year, Megan Good winning Pitcher of the Year and Mickey Dean earning Coach of the Year recognition. Virginia Tech’s Lauren Duff was voted Rookie of the Year.
