DOVER, Del. – The Delaware State softball team (25-16) concluded its 2016 home slate on Tuesday in thrilling fashion with a pair of dramatic victories over the Atlantic 10’s La Salle Explorers (13-28), 2-1 and 10-7 (eight innings).
With these wins, the Hornets not only finished with a 10-1 home record, but Delaware State extended its season-long winning streak to 11 games. In the case of La Salle, it has now dropped seven out of its last eight, including its last three meetings against the Hornets.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will close out the regular season this Sunday afternoon (2 p.m. | 4 p.m.) with a doubleheader at Rider. Delaware State will then head to Ormond Beach, Fla. as the No. 1 overall seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships (May 12 – 14). The Hornets will look to claim their first tournament crown since 2008.
