SCSU Men?s Tennis to take on #7 Georgia; Women draw #2 Florida

NORFOLK, Va. – The South Carolina State men’s and women’s tennis teams were selected to compete in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, the NCAA Selection Committee announced on Tuesday from Indianapolis.

The South Carolina State men will travel to Athens, Ga., to take on host No. 7 Georgia on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will visit No. 2-seed Florida in Gainesville, Fla., at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13.

South Carolina State received the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship after a 4-0 victory over Florida A&M in the conference championship. The Lady Bulldogs reached the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship by receiving the conference’s automatic qualifier after defeating Florida A&M, 4-0, in the MEAC tournament.

The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (8-10) will face host institution Florida (21-2), who received the second seed in the 64-team draw in the NCAA Regional contest.

In the last postseason meeting, South Carolina fell to Florida, 4-0, in 2014. This will be the sixth time the two teams have met in the NCAA First Round.

On the men’s side, South Carolina State (12-8) will face Georgia (20-4), which lost in the SEC championship match to Florida. This will be the third meeting in NCAA Division I tournament history, with Georgia holding a 2-0 advantage in the series, including a 4-0 victory in 2012.

The University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center plays host to the combined men’s and women’s tournament from the Round of 16 through the final. The women’s Round of 16 begins on Thursday, May 19, while men’s Round of 16 action commences on Friday, May 20.
