Savannah State Advances In Winners Bracket, defeats MSU

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The No. 1S Savannah State University (25-21) started the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship with a 13-0 win over No. 4N seed of Morgan State University (13-27) in five innings at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex Thursday.

Senior first baseman Torrian Wright went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk, while freshman third baseman Cortni Jones, junior pitcher Amanda Hallman and junior catcher Tia Bolden each went 2-for-3.  Jones added a three-run home run and two runs scored and four RBIs, Hallman scored once with an RBI and Bolden scored once with two RBIs.

Junior right fielder Alexis Singleton went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs.  On the mound, Hallman pitched the first three shutout innings scattering two hits with six strikeouts and no walks, while freshman pitcher Kasie Johnson pitched the final two innings giving up one hit with four strikeouts.

Three Lady Bears recorded a hit with Damali Young, Audrianna Alvarez and Nicole Vandenberg, while Amy Begg (8-14) picked up the loss pitching one inning giving up six runs on three hits with three walks.  Erica Hawkins gave up seven runs in 1.1 innings on six hits, while Victoria Propst pitched the final 1.2 shutout innings.
