NORFOLK, Va. — Each year, Nike chooses deserving students from a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member institution to participate in its Summer Internship Program.
To qualify for this internship, candidates must be a junior or senior, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, are passionate about the Nike brand is pursuing a career in sports. This year, Howard University’s Jaelin Porter and Jamel Wright were selected for the 12-week program.
Porter is a women’s lacrosse student-athlete. She will work under Nike’s Global Brand Team as a Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) intern and work directly with the Vice President of Global Brand DTC.
Wright is the student manager for the men’s basketball team. He will join Nike’s Basketball Brand Team as a marketing intern.
“I am very elated that Jaelin Porter and Jamel Wright were selected as Nike interns,” MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas said. “It is another positive for our partnership with Nike. We have two very talented students who will be able to immerse their talents with the world leader in sports apparel and footwear.”
The selection process was highly competitive. Nike conducted virtual presentations in December 2015, after which the student-athletes went through an interview process from January to March.
The internship takes place from June to August at the Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The program gives students the opportunity to learn about the Nike culture, history and how the business operates.

Nike is ranked No. 9 by Fortune magazine in the annual “World’s Most Admired Companies” list, and No. 18 by Forbes magazine in the publication’s “World’s Most Valuable Brands” list.
