Hampton's Chievous, Johnson Named BOXTOROW All-Americans

HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University guards Quinton Chievous and Reginald Johnson, Jr. were each First Team All-America selections on Monday, when BoxToRow unveiled its 2015-16 HBCU Div. I All-America Teams.

Chievous was a First Team All-MEAC selection this past season, leading the conference in rebounding (10.7 rpg) and ranking in the top five in the MEAC in scoring (17.0 ppg). He had 12 double-doubles on the season, including a career-best 29-point, 23-rebound effort at Winthrop.

He also had 29 points against Delaware State on Feb. 29. Chievous, who averaged 15.0 points and 9.7 rebounds in the MEAC Tournament, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

He was BoxToRow’s National Player of the Week on Jan. 27.

Johnson was named First Team All-MEAC and the MEAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, ranking second in the MEAC in scoring with 18.1 points per game. He had two 30-point games on the season, including a career-high 35 points at Northern Arizona on Dec. 2.

He also had 30 points against Washington Adventist. Johnson was also third in the MEAC in steals and sixth in assists. Johnson averaged 19.3 points and 8.3 assists per game in the MEAC Tournament, and he dished out a MEAC Tournament record-tying 13 assists in the quarterfinals against Morgan State.

Both players were also NABC First Team All-District 15 selections this past season.

Howard’s James Daniel III and Texas Southern’s Derrick Griffin were named BoxToRow Co-Players of the Year, and Tennessee State’s Dana Ford was named Coach of the Year.
