Augusta Boosts Lead After Day Two Of Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University men’s golf team used an eight-under par round of 280 to extend its lead to 14 strokes after day two of the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship at the Crosswinds Golf Club on Friday.

The Jaguars have a team total of 12-under par 564 to lead through 36 of the scheduled 54-hole tournament.  Bethune-Cookman sits in second after a three-over round of 291 Friday for a 578 total.

The tournament will conclude on Saturday at 8 a.m. on the 6,848-yard, par-72 course. 

Augusta’s Robin Petersson followed his co-leading first round 69 with a five-under round of 67 on Friday for a 136 total and a three shot lead over teammate Jake Marriott who was two-under on Friday with a 70 for a 139 total. 

A pair of teammates from second-place Bethune-Cookman follow the Jaguars tandem as Connor O’Brien sits in third after a one-under 71 on Friday for a 143 two-day total.  One stroke behind O’Brien is Joel Ramirez who fired his second straight even-par round of 72 for a 144 two-day total.

Florida A&M sits in third place at 28-over par 604 following a Friday round of 305. North Carolina Central (308-306-614), Savannah State (307-313-620), Maryland Eastern Shore (318-325-643) and Hampton (336-347-683) round out the field.

The tournament champion and medalist receives an automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Selection Show will air Thursday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
