Lady Eagles Blanked Twice by the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville held the North Carolina Central University softball team to just four combined hits in a 9-0 (5) and 5-0 doubleheader sweep at Ulmer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Louisville (29-9) connected for 22 combined hits in scoring their 14 runs.
Three of the Lady Eagles four hits were doubles off the bats of seniors in Markell Wylie, London Booker and Casey Hargett.
NCCU (4-37) will conclude its series at Louisville with a single game on Sunday at noon.
In game one, the Cards ripped 13 hits and got an 11-strikeout performance from junior Maryssa Becker in coasting to the nine-run triumph in five innings.
Senior Jenny Tracy had the Lady Eagles first hit, dumping a blooper to right field in the first inning. Wylie added a double in the third and Booker just missed her third home run, settling for a double after she launched a deep shot off to right field that hit high off the fence.
In game two, Booker, who was coming off a complete-game victory at Norfolk State on Wednesday, continued to throw the ball well keeping the Cardinals off the board for the first four innings.
Booker logged three strikeouts in her five innings of work and freshman Breanna Carter tossed one inning of scoreless relief in the sixth, retiring the side in order. Carter has not allowed an earned run in seven of her eight relief appearances this season.

Howard and Norfolk State Split Doubleheader
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win game one over the Norfolk State softball team, but the Spartan offense took command in game two as the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Nationals Youth Academy.
The Spartans ran their record to 7-4 in conference play and 13-19 overall. Howard saw its marks go to 6-26 overall and 2-6 in the MEAC.
In game one, NSU was limited to just three hits in the first game, won by the Bison in walk-off fashion by a 3-2 score. The Spartans had 12 hits in the second contest to earn an 11-5 triumph.
NSU left seven batters on base in the first game, and sophomore Seana Moriarty had two of the team's three hits.
Hunter Halford (3-5) gave up six hits and three runs, one earned, in 6.1 innings.
Alex Flynn did not get the win but limited NSU to one hit and two runs, one earned, after starting the contest and pitching the first 4.1 innings. Tara Castellano (1-4) got the victory in relief after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.
In game two, junior Kayla McNair drove in four runs to lead the Spartan attack. Senior Megan Dunning and sophomore Megan Przeslawski each had two hits and two RBI.
Freshman Kylee Lopez and junior Devon Bitler each went 2-for-5, while Heather Dunning batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored at the top of the lineup. Moriarty and senior Whitney Williams each scored three runs.
Sophomore Marissa Marrero (7-10) pitched all seven innings to earn the win for NSU.

Hampton Sweeps UMES in Doubleheader
HAMPTON, Va. – With a doubleheader sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium, the Hampton University softball team snapped an eight-game losing streak.
The Lady Pirates won the first game 5-4 before taking the second game 5-3.
Hampton is now 14-24 overall and 6-5 in MEAC play.
In game one, freshman Allie Hotetz was dominating in the circle; she struck out UMES’ first six batters of the game and had seven strikeouts after three innings.
Junior Kayla DeSchepper had two hits to lead the Lady Pirates at the plate. Hotetz matched her season high with eight strikeouts, picking up her sixth win of the season.
In game two, junior Danielle Budden, freshman Hope Sobelewski, and senior Taylor McCoy each had two hits in the second game, while sophomore Jada Fields and DeSchepper each drove in two runs.
Fields struck out two and picked up her fifth win of the season.

Savannah State Splits Doubleheader with Florida A&M
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (17-18, 7-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) split the doubleheader against Florida A&M University (22-23 (10-1 MEAC) to open a 10-game homestand at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
The Lady Tigers recorded four hits in game one with Jenkins, junior right fielder Alexis Singleton, freshman Cortni Jones and junior Antonette Smith each recording a hit, while Smith scored the only run and Jenkins recorded the only RBI. Junior Amanda Hallman pitched a complete game giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
The Rattlers were led by Jessica Nathan, Tasshay Irvis, Alexis Day, Amber Fullwood, Kenya Pereira and Whitney Farris with one hit each, while Farris scored twice and Day recorded the only RBI. On the mound, Kenya Pereira went the distance giving up one run on four hits.
In game two, Smith went 3-for-4 with a run scored and five RBIs, including a three-run shot to left field, while sophomore shortstop Brianna Harris, senior Torrian Wright and Jones each recorded two hits. Jones scored four times with an RBI, while Wright scored three times with an RBI, including a solo home run to center field.
On the mound, freshman Kasie Johnson pitched the first three innings giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts, while Hallman picked up the win in relief pitching the final three innings giving up three runs, no earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
The Rattlers were led by Nathan going 2-for-3, while Miesha McBride recorded three RBIs and Toni Anderson recorded a run scored and an RBI. On the mound, Veronica Burse pitched the first 2.1 innings giving up seven runs on six hits, while Tahlia Snider pitched the final three innings giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits.
