Aggies In Seventh After Day 1

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – North Carolina A&T State went 2-3 after the first day of the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship at the Bowling Zone Carolier Lanes on Thursday as a part of preliminary match play to determine seeding.

Sam Houston State had the best day by going 4-1. Three other teams were 3-2 including Nebraska, Arkansas State and Vanderbilt. Joining the Aggies at 2-3 was McKendree and Central Missouri. Stephen F. Austin was 1-4. Each team still has two more preliminary round games on Friday morning. The Aggies will go in to Friday in seventh place with 4,859 pinfall.

They still must Central Missouri and Vanderbilt. The Aggies defeated the No. 1 team in the nation and defending national champion in Nebraska 993-965 before beating McKendree. But interim head coach Linda Grace believes a few of the matches got away from the Aggies.

“There was only one match we didn’t have control over today,” said Grace about the loss to Arkansas State, 1009-942. “We were ahead in all but one, so we definitely have to buckle down and make the better shots when we need them. We can’t afford to give games away. We gave the last two games away.”
