Morgan State Men Top Coppin State

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Morgan State men's tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout victory over crosstown rival Coppin State on Thursday morning in their final home match of the season at the MSU Tennis Courts.
 
Morgan State, which is in the midst of a brilliant season, improved to a 10-10 overall record (4-0 MEAC) and extended their home record to 4-0. Morgan State is just three wins shy of surpassing the Bears' 12-6 mark set in 2008.
 
Senior Evan Ward and sophomore Treajh Ferguson secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. The freshmen duo of Jeremy Field and Arjun Ramakrishnan ran away with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore tandem Felix Andre and Lucas Krusinski won at No. 3 by a score of 6-2.
 
Ramakrishnan and Krusinski each logged 6-0, 6-0 victories at courts five and six, respectively, while Field finished with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Gavin Lewis on court three.
 
Ward, the MEAC's reigning Player of the Week, earned his seventh-straight victory by dismantling Andres Diaz 6-1, 6-0 on court four.
 
Ferguson closed out Gabriel Franca 6-4, 6-0 on court one and Felix Andre finished off Christian Duchnak by a final score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) on court two.
 
Morgan State will close out the regular season with a three-game road swing. The Bears will travel to the Tidewater area to take on Norfolk State on Saturday, April 16, followed by Hampton on Sunday, April 17. They will face UMBC for the regular season finale on Tuesday, April 19.

Coppin State Men Drop Pair Of Matches Thursday

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Coppin State University men's tennis team fell to cross town rival Morgan State University Bears, 7-0 on Thursday, April 14 at the MSU Tennis Courts in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles hosted the University of Delaware Hens later on that day and also loss 6-1 at the CSU Tennis Courts.

Gabriel Franca (6-4, 6-0) was defeated in No. 1 singles, while Christian Duchnak fell in a competitive (6-3, 7-6, 7-5) match in No. 2 singles. The duo loss in No. 1 doubles play 6-4.

Gavin Lewis and Andres Diaz (6-1, 6-0) competed at No. 3 and No. 4 singles action. The pair also dropped No. 2 doubles match 6-0.

 Zaipo Oula and Ross Olexa (6-0, 6-0) battled at No. 5 and No. 6 singles while the two teamed up and were defeated in No. 3 doubles action 6-2. 

 Later on that day, Franca and Duchnak garnered a 6-4 No. 1 doubles victory in Coppin State's 6-1 loss to the University of Delaware on Thursday, April 14 at the CSU Tennis Complex in Baltimore, MD.

The Blue Hens swept the Eagles in singles matches.

Franca (6-0, 6-0) fell in No. 1 singles while Duchnak (7-5, 6-2, 5-7) was defeated in a competitive No. 2 singles match.

Oula (6-0, 6-2) and Olexa (6-0, 6-1) battled at No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches while the duo teamed up and loss 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.

Lewis and Diaz competed at No. 5 and No. 6 singles action. The pair dropped No. 3 doubles match 7-5.

UMES Women Fall At Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In arguably their toughest road match of the season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Tennis Team dropped their nonconference matchup against Bucknell, 7-0.

With the setback, Maryland Eastern Shore fell to 0-13 overall while the Bison improved to 13-6 on the season.

In singles play, Bucknell was nearly perfect as each Bison won in straight sets. Senior Crystal Crook (Clinton, Md.), UMES’ No. 4 player, scored a point against Michele Urbinati before falling (6-0, 6-1).

In doubles competition, the Bison were flawless as they went 6-0 in all three matches.

Tomorrow (April 14), the Lady Hawks remain in Pennsylvania with two stops. In the morning, Maryland Eastern Shore meets the Temple Owls at 9 a.m. In the afternoon, UMES squares off against Penn State Abington at 3 p.m.
