SCSU's Garvin Among Finalist For Ben Jobe Award

BOSTON, Mass. – South Carolina State head men’s basketball coach Murray Garvin has been named a finalist for the 2016 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year Award, which is awarded annually to the top minority coach in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
 
Garvin who just completed his third full season leading the Bulldogs, recently earned his second Coach of the Year honor after being named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 15 Coach of the Year. He was also named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach of the Year for the first time after guiding the Bulldogs to their best finish regular season finish since 2005 with a 19-15 overall record and a 12-4 MEAC record. South Carolina State finished the regular season tied for second place, advanced to the MEAC Championship game and earned a postseason tournament bid to the CIT (Collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament).
 
A list of 21 finalists was unveiled on Wednesday.
 
The 2016 Ben Jobe Award recipient will be announced on Monday, April 4 in Houston, Texas, the site of the 2016 Final Four. The award is named after Ben Jobe, who coached at Southern University for 12 years, winning 209 games and making four NCAA Tournament appearances.
