Hampton Splits Doubleheader at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Hampton University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Liberty on Thursday at the LU Softball Stadium, winning the first game 7-5 before falling 13-1 in five innings in the second game.

The Lady Pirates are now 12-17 on the season.

In the first game, senior Taylor McCoy went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs in the first game, while freshman Hope Sobelewski went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Sophomore Jada Fields drove in three runs.

Freshman Allie Hotetz struck out three in picking up her fifth win of the season.

In the second game, the Flames led 9-0 after two innings.

Junior Danielle Budden had two of Hampton’s four hits in the second game.

The Lady Pirates will be in Blacksburg, Va. on Sunday for a doubleheader against Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
