MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S AND WOMEN?S TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Morgan State sophomore Felix Andre and Bethune-Cookman junior Mina Matsuba were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central’s Gabriel Cucalon earned the men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Andre (So., Berlin, Germany) went 1-1 during the week at the No. 4 singles position. He rallied for a 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (5-0) victory over Johns Hopkins’ Nicholas Garcia.

Matsuba (Jr., Nie, Japan) registered a 6-0 mark during the week in doubles and singles action at the No. 1 positions. She posted a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Bailey Padgett of Butler.

Cacualon (Fr., Guayaquil, Ecuador) went a perfect 6-0 during the week in doubles and singles play against North Carolina A&T State, South Dakota State and Howard. He earned a 6-3, 6-3, win over Howard’s William Jones III.

Other Top Performers: 

Alvaro Barrera (B-CU) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win, at the No. 5 spot, against Loyola (Md.).

Kert Kilumets (NCCU) went 3-0 during the week against North Carolina A&T State, South Dakota State and Howard.

Aissa Muamba (NCCU) posted two victories at the No. 1 position against Howard and North Carolina A&T State.
