Tate Takes Top Finish For NCCU At Bash At The Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sumner Tate posted a three-round total of 220 to tie for 39th out of 111 golfers on the individual leaderboard at the “Bash at the Beach” collegiate invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University at The Surf Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Tate carded two rounds of two-over-par 73 on Monday, then closed out with a 74 on Tuesday. He tied for sixth in the tournament field with 39 pars.

Zane Lewis (Sanford, N.C.) as the only other Eagle to record three rounds in the 70s, as the sophomore shot 79, 78 and 73 for a total of 230 to tie for 82nd place. Lewis tallied a team-best seven birdies.

Michael Wilson finished in 101st place with a 239 (79, 82, 78), Jordan Bohannon followed in 102nd place with a score of 241 (80, 83, 78), and Jerome Bostwick tied for 107th place with a 248 (86, 80, 82).

As a team, NCCU placed 18th out of 19 teams. After opening day team scores of 311 and 313, the Eagles finished strong with a score of 303.

NCCU’s next competition is on April 4 at the East Carolina Intercollegiate in Greenville, North Carolina.
