DSU'S Morgan A Final Candidate For Mid-Major Rookie of the Year

DOVER, Del. --- Delaware State freshman guard Devin Morgan has made it to the "Final 4" in the balloting for the top rookie among Mid-Major Division I college basketball players this season.

Morgan is among the last four players listed on a “NCAA Tournament-style” bracket for College Court Report’s 2015-16 Mid-Major Freshman-of-the-Year.

Morgan is paired up in the Final 4 round against Jaylen Franklin of Abilene Christian. Fletcher Magee of Wofford and Matt Morgan of Cornell are the other national semifinalists.

Morgan was selected as the 2015-16 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)  Rookie-of-the-Year. He was a five-time MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week selection this season.

During the 2015-16 regular season, Morgan was tops on the Hornets and 23rd in the MEAC in scoring at 12.2 points per game. He also ranked 11th in the league in assists (2.7 pg), 10th in free throw percentage (.792), 14th in three-point percentage (.356) and ninth in three-pointers per game (2.3).

Morgan topped the Hornets in scoring, or tied for the lead in 11 games during the 2015-16 regular season.  He has reached double-figures in scoring in 20 games, including the last 10.

He ended his rookie season with a string of 28 straight games with at least one three-point field goal. The Hornet guard nailed at least three three-pointers in 11 games this season, including five in two contests.

On Feb. 22, Morgan scored a career-best 31 points in a home loss to Hampton, the single-game high on the Hornets this season.  He was 10-for-19 from the field, including five-of-nine from three-point territory, and a perfect on six free throws in the contest.

He scored 27 points at Morgan State on Jan. 9, highlighted by 10-for-10 shooting at the free throw line.
