MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State sophomore Vanessa Washington was selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.  Savannah State’s Amanda Hallman earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T State’s Mohagony Headen earned Rookie of the Week.

Washington (1B, 5-6, So., Elk Grove, Calif.) registered a .455 batting average in four games last week. She finished with five hits, including two home runs and one double, with five runs scored and six runs batted in, against Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State. Defensively, she recorded 21 putouts and one assist.

Hallman (P, 5-8, Jr., Kennesaw, Ga.) went 2-0, with one save, and recorded a 0.44 ERA in a conference sweep of Bethune-Cookman. She allowed just one run, in 16.0 innings, and scattered seven hits, with nine strikeouts. Also, she held Bethune-Cookman to a .132 batting average in the three-game series.

Headen (P, 5-10, Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) pitched a no-hitter during Saturday’s 9-0 victory over South Carolina State. She worked 5.0 innings and struck out four in the win. Also, she tallied five strikeouts, in 5.0 innings, in a 10-1 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Nicole Brock (DSU) finished with a season-high eight strikeouts, in 5.0 innings pitched, in a win over Norfolk State.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) recorded a career-high two triples, with two runs scored, in a loss to Coppin State.

Raven Gray (NCAT) tallied seven hits, including two triples and one home, with six runs scored and four RBIs, against Drexel and South Carolina State.

Adrienne Guerra (UMES) posted 28 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched against Delaware State and Coppin State.

Tashayla Irvis (FAMU) went 5-for-8 (.625), with one double, two walks, three runs scored and one RBI, in a conference sweep of North Carolina Central.

Cortni Jones (SSU) batted .273, with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored, in a conference sweep of Bethune-Cookman.

Megan Narvaez (CSU) registered five strikeouts in 14.0 innings to earn two victories over Maryland Eastern Shore.  

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) recorded one win and one save, with 10 strikeouts, in conference wins against North Carolina Central.

Danielle Smith (CSU) finished with seven hits, four runs scored and three stolen bases against Mount Saint Mary’s and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Nachelle Watson (FAMU) belted a grand slam home run to lift the Lady Rattlers to a 4-2 win over North Carolina Central.

Whitney Williams (NSU) batted .375 (6-for-16), with two home runs, five RBIs, four runs scored and one stolen base against Drexel and Delaware State.
