LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Leon Fricker posted an opening round 67 on Friday, placing himself tied for third overall in helping Bethune-Cookman Men’s Golf tie for fourth at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite held at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida.
Fricker, a native of Ivybridge, England, sparked the Maroon and Gold with an opening round 4-under 67 on Friday. He enters Saturday’s second round just a shot off the lead on the individual leaderboard.
As a team, Bethune-Cookman (282) is just one shot off a tie for second place, sitting just behind Florida Gulf Coast (281) and Mississippi (282). The Wildcats are tied alongside host FAU (282), while Connecticut (276) sits atop the team leaderboard after the opening 18 holes of this year’s 54-hole tournament.
B-CU junior Joel Ramirez fired an even-par 71, placing himself tied for 23 in the field. He is followed by Connor O’Brien who is tied for 33rd, scoring an opening round 1-over 72.
Tied alongside O’Brien is teammate and senior Bradley Peil with a 1-over 72 scorecard.
The final B-CU golfer in the scoring for the Wildcats is senior Jackson Kneeshaw with a 6-over 77, allowing him to sit tied for 78th overall.
Zach Zaback (Connecticut) and Andrew Potter (Florida Gulf Coast) share the lead after the opening round, with both golfers firing a 5-under 66.
