Hampton's Chievous, Johnson Named NABC First Team All-District

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hampton University guards Quinton Chievous and Reginald Johnson, Jr. were both named First Team All-District 15 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), which announced its Div. I All-District Teams and Coaches on Friday.

In addition, guard Brian Darden was named Second Team All-District 15.

Chievous was a First Team All-MEAC selection this past season, leading the conference in rebounding (10.7 rpg) and ranking in the top five in the MEAC in scoring (17.0 ppg). He had 12 double-doubles on the season, including a career-best 29-point, 23-rebound effort at Winthrop.

He also had 29 points against Delaware State on Feb. 29. Chievous, who averaged 15.0 points and 9.7 rebounds in the MEAC Tournament, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Johnson was First Team All-MEAC and the MEAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, ranking second in the MEAC in scoring with 18.1 points per game. He had two 30-point games on the season, including a career-high 35 points at Northern Arizona on Dec. 2.

He also had 30 points against Washington Adventist. Johnson was also third in the MEAC in steals and sixth in assists. Johnson averaged 19.3 points and 8.3 assists per game in the MEAC Tournament, and he dished out a MEAC Tournament record-tying 13 assists in the quarterfinals against Morgan State.

Darden averaged 13.0 points per game this past season, and he tied his career high with 23 points at Morgan State on Jan. 6.

He was third in the MEAC In free throw percentage and sixth in 3-pointers per game.
