NORFOLK, Va. — Bethune-Cookman sophomore Alexander Chepik and junior Mina Matsuba were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Benedikt Henning and Marta Gomar earned Men’s and Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week honors.
Chepik (So., Moscow, Russia) registered a 4-0 mark in singles and doubles play against Fairleigh Dickinson and Lafayette. He earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Brian Stefanowicz of Lafayette.
Matsuba (Jr., Mie, Japan) posted a 2-0 mark in singles play, at the No. 1 spot, against Georgia Southern and Fordham. She rallied for a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Giulia Riepe of Georgia Southern.
Henning (Fr., Bad Hersfeld, Germany) went 2-1 in singles play at the No. 1 position. He posted a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 victory over William & Mary’s Christian Cargill.
Gomar (Fr., Valencia, Spain) went 2-0 in singles and doubles action, at the No. 3 spot, against Delaware State. She picked up a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 win against Elvira Galieva, of Delaware State, in the first conference game of the season.
Other Top Performers:
Dajana Cvjetkovic (NSU) posted two victories over Delaware State in singles and doubles play.
Justin Hall (B-CU) went 3-0 in singles and doubles play, at the No. 3 spot, against Lafayette and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Evan Ward (MSU) defeated Connor Pietrak, of Loyola (Md.), 6-2, 7-6, at the No. 4 singles position.
