Hampton Men Drop Heartbreaker To Longwood 4-3
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 match on Tuesday to visiting Longwood University at the Neilson-Screen Tennis Stadium.
In doubles, Longwood took the No. 1 match, but the Pirates took the team point after winning matches at No. 2 and No. 3. Charles Hudson and Miguel Suarez took a 6-2 decision over Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev at No. 3 to even the doubles. The deciding match went to the Pirates as Peter Odegbami and Fedor Shirin scored a 6-4 win over Florian Uffer and Lachlan Manser to put the Pirates up 1-0.
In singles, the Lancers scored wins in the first three matches to take a 3-1 advantage. Hudson scored a win for the Pirates over Sankar 6-4, 6-2 to get the hosts back within a point at 3-2.
The match went down to the last two singles matches as Manser took a three-set win at No. 6 over Joshua McQueen 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 as Longwood won the decisive point. A couple moments later, Suarez also won a three-set match at No. 5 over Ilchev 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 for the final 4-3 margin.
Hampton returns to action on Saturday at noon when the Pirates host Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division matchup starting at noon.

Bethune-Cookman Women Fall To Fordham
Orlando, FL – Mina Matsuba and Alejandra Vidal extended their winning streaks, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a 5-2 decision to Fordham Tuesday afternoon.
Matsuba won her sixth straight and improved to 14-5 on the season with her victory at No. 1 singles while Vidal (12-6) took her fifth straight win at No. 5.
B-CU (9-11) dropped its second straight while Fordham improved to 6-2.
The Lady Wildcats play their final home match of the season Thursday at noon against Rhode Island.
