DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Alexander Chepik and Alvaro Barrera extended their singles winning streaks to eight and six, respectively, and Bethune-Cookman won its sixth straight match with a 7-0 victory over Lafayette Monday afternoon.
The Wildcats improved to 10-9, going over .500 for the first time since beating Embry-Riddle back on February 3.
Chepik improved to 11-6 while Barrera registered his team-leading 13th victory of the spring as the Wildcats posted a 7-0 win for the third time in the last four matches. Chepik and doubles partner Greg Almeida also won their sixth consecutive match at No. 2 doubles.
Walid Gtari improved to 12-7 with his win at No. 2 singles. He and Jose Plazas won their fourth straight doubles match early in the day. Freshman Justin Hall also registered two wins on Monday.
Bethune-Cookman is now off until an April 2 match at South Carolina State that will go a long way in determining seeds for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament April 19-22 in Norfolk, Va. The teams were slated to meet in the 2015 MEAC tournament championship match.
