MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOFTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Florida A&M’s Jessica Nathan and Norfolk State’s Hannah Haustein were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Co-Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Stephanie Davenport earned Rookie of the Week, while Tara Tursellino of Delaware State was named Pitcher of the Week.

Nathan (2B, 5-4, Sr., Archer, Fla.) recorded a .500 batting average in six games. She finished with three runs on 11 hits, including three RBIs, two doubles and one triple. Also, she belted one home run against Troy.

Haustein (RF, 5-5, r-Jr., Austin, Texas) went 6-for-10, in three wins against Coppin State, with two runs, five RBIs and one double. She posted a career-high four RBIs in the first game of the series.

Davenport (SS, 5-7, Fr., Richmond, Va.) batted .333 with eight runs, five RBIs and two doubles, in five games against North Carolina A&T State and Coppin State. She finished with four putouts and 12 assists.

Tursellino (P, 5-6, Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) struck out a team- and season-high seven batters, in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore. She pitched 5.0 innings and allowed just one run.

 

Other Top Performers

Jennifer Allison (NCCU) tossed her first complete-game shutout, in a 6-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

MacKenzie Brown (UMES) recorded her first multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate, in a win over Delaware State.

Nicole Gazzola (DSU) went 2-for-4 at the plate, with one stolen base, in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Adrienne Guerra (UMES) registered 15 strikeouts, over five games in 27.1 innings pitched.

Marissa Marrero (NSU) pitched a shutout game, in five innings, against Coppin State.

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) pitched seven scoreless innings, with four strikeouts, in a win over UMass-Lowell.

Danielle Smith (CSU) finished with three hits and three runs, with one RBI and two doubles, in three games against Norfolk State.

Tahlia Snider (FAMU) earned her first collegiate pitching win, allowing no walks, in seven innings pitched.

Dominque Wilson (NCCU) belted a grand slam in a 13-4 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
