DURHAM, N.C.—North Carolina Central University racked up 20 hits and blasted five home runs to complete a 6-0 and 13-4 doubleheader sweep of fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference member University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday afternoon at Parkwood Athletic Field.
Junior second baseman Jenny Tracy connected for a home run in each contest, including a walk-off shot in the nightcap, to pace the Lady Eagles to the sweep of the Hawks for a second straight year.
NCCU (3-22 Overall) is 3-2 at home and will next host Gardner-Webb University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. (DH). UMES had its record stumble to 5-13.
In game one, Tracy started the Lady Eagles scoring with a solo homer and freshman Aleyah Evans drilled a three-run home run to supply junior starter Jennifer Allison with plenty of run support as NCCU blanked the Hawks.
Allison tossed her first shutout in a Maroon and Gray uniform. Allison (1-9) only allowed five hits in her seven innings of work and she struck out five on her way to the victory.
NCCU finished with an 8-5 hit advantage with Evans, Kayleigh Brueck and sophomore Danyelle Noland all hitting safely two times apiece.
In game two, Junior Dominique Wilson crushed a grand slam to highlight an eight-run fourth inning before Tracy tagged her walk-off, two-run homer with one out in the fifth as NCCU rallied from a couple early deficits to run-rule UMES.
Senior Markell Wylie scored a team-high three runs from the leadoff position.
Senior London Booker picked up her second straight home win. Booker (2-9) hurled four innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits. She collected half of her 12 outs with strikeouts.
