Presbyterian Sweeps North Carolina Central

CLINTON, S.C.—Senior catcher Casey Hargett ripped a pair of doubles and a triple for North Carolina Central University but host Presbyterian College scored 10 combined runs in its last at bats to sweep the non-conference doubleheader by scores of 9-1 (5) and 8-2 at the PC Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles went 0-4 on their spring break road trip. NCCU (1-22 Overall) won its last home game on Friday and will look to get back in the win column when the Lady Eagles return home and entertain University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Parkwood Athletic Field on Thursday at 4 p.m.

In game one, the Blue Hose scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away for the 9-1 victory. NCCU committed three errors in the frame which led to four unearned runs that turned a close game into a blowout.

The Lady Eagles started each of their final four innings with hits, including singles by freshman Aleyah Evans, senior Markell Wylie and freshman Breanna Carter in the second, third and fifth innings, respectively, but the Maroon and Gray was unable to capitalize on any of those opportunities.

Junior Jennifer Allison tossed the whole game for NCCU but took the loss despite four of her nine runs allowed being unearned. Allison (0-9) had three strikeouts and issued just one walk.

In game two, junior Dominique Wilson and sophomore Danyelle Noland both collected a pair of hits for NCCU and Hargett drove in another run with her second double of the afternoon. However, Presbyterian (14-10) plated four runs in the sixth to pull away and complete the sweep.

Senior London Booker (1-9) hurled the first five-plus innings for the Lady Eagles and fanned a season-high eight batters.
