MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S AND WOMEN?S TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman sophomores Alexander Chepik and Alejandra Vidal were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Benedikt Henning and Marta Gomar earned the men’s and women’s Tennis Rookies of the Week.

Chepik (So., Moscow, Russia) went 4-0 in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and 4-1 in doubles action. He posted a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Fedor Shirin in a non-conference match against Hampton.

Vidal (So., Maracaibo, Venezuela) registered a 3-1 mark at the No 5 and No. 6 spots in singles action and 3-2 in doubles play. She registered a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Mafalda Lhorca in a non-conference win over Norfolk State.

Henning (Fr., Bad Hersfeld, Germany) posted a 3-0 mark in singles play at the No. 1 position and a 2-1 record in doubles action against Creighton, South Dakota State and Bethune-Cookman. He picked up a 6-7, 6-0, 10-3 victory against Lovro Curcija of South Dakota State.

Gomar (Fr., Valencia, Spain) went 2-2 in singles action and 3-1 in doubles play during the week. She posted a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 victory over Creighton’s Darby Rosette.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Charles Hudson (HAM) posted a 6-4, 6-3 win against Bethune-Cookman’s Justin Hall, at the No. 3 spot and went 4-0 in doubles play.

Antonio Pejic (NSU) registered three singles victories, at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, against Creighton, South Dakota State and Bethune-Cookman.

Jose Plazas (B-CU) recorded a 3-2 mark in singles action, including a 6-4, 6-2 conference win over North Carolina A&T State’s Nicolas Ardur.

Karen Romero (B-CU) posted a 4-1 record in singles play, including a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win over North Carolina Central’s Lynsey Cover, at the No. 6 position.
