Augusta Sits Sixth At Southwestern Jones Invitational
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The 2016 season began for the Augusta Jaguars at the Southwestern Jones Invitational on Monday afternoon and the Jags are in sixth place at 14-over par after 36 holes at North Ranch Country Club.
Along with the Jaguars, the 15-team field includes host Pepperdine, Boise State, BYU, Fresno State, Iowa, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Oregon, Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Diego State, USC, and Winthrop. Six of the 15 teams are ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
Teams played 36 holes in a shotgun format for rounds one and two on the par-72, 6,992-yard course and No. 6 Southern California leads at 24 shots below par. No. 42 Pepperdine is 13 shots behind in second place at -11, while No. 20 San Diego State is third, No. 27 Oregon fourth, and Fresno State fifth.
Augusta was 10-over par after the opening 18 holes and in eighth place, but shaved six strokes from their team score to finish 14-over-par after round two in sixth place and one stroke out of fifth.
Jaguar seniors Robin Petersson and Maverick Antcliff each shot 71 (-1) in the first round and Antcliff shot one-under par again in round two to lead the Jags in 10th place (-2). Petersson’s round-two 74 (+2) put him in a tie for 16th. Antcliff had six birdies on the day and Petersson seven.
Junior Jake Marriott is tied for 20th two shots over par with a 75 (+3) and 71 (-1) in rounds one and two. Juniors Viktor Edin and Cooper Brown rounded out the Augusta starting five with Edin tied for 69th 13-over par and Brown tied for 75th (+15).,
The final 18 holes concludes the event on Tuesday, March 1 with tee beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Wildcats Sit Seventh at The Legacy
LONGWOOD, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman senior Leon Fricker led the way for the Wildcats on Monday in the opening two rounds of The Legacy by Frontier Secure, helping B-CU Men’s Golf to a seventh place showing at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in Longwood, Florida.
Fricker, a senior from Ivybridge, England, fired rounds of 76 and 72, respectfully, placing himself tied for 19th overall in the tournament field with a 148 (+4). His even-par second round was amongst the top 10 in the field.
Behind him in the B-CU scoring order is Connor O’Brien (71-79=150), a sophomore from Harpenden, England. O’Brien is tied for 24th on the tournament leaderboard, while his opening round 1-under-par 71 led all Wildcats on the day through the first 36 holes of play.
Jackson Kneeshaw (75-78=153), a senior from Darlington, England, is tied for 37th on the board, firing his best round of 3-over 75 in the opening 18 holes. He is followed in scoring by newcomer Joel Ramirez (72-82=154) is tied for 43rd in the field. The native of Spain opened his first-ever tournament for the Maroon and Gold with a first round even-par 72.
Finalizing the B-CU scoring is senior Bradley Peil (77-79=156) of Rescue, California, tied for 51st in the field heading into Tuesday’s final round action.
Bethune-Cookman (294-308=602) is three shots ahead of Western Carolina (305-300=605), while sitting just 10 strokes behind fifth place member Florida Gulf Coast (291-301=592). Wofford (288-283=571) leads the team portion of the field, while the Terriers’ Jeremy Grab (69-69=138) is atop the individual leaderboard.
Final round action takes place back at Alaqua Lakes on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
