Hornets Drop in Heartbreaker to Rattlers in Double OT
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Malcolm Bernard drove the length of the court and hit a running shot in the lane as time expired to give Florida A&M a 96-95 victory over Delaware State in a double-overtime men’s basketball thriller at the Al Lawson Center Monday evening.
Devin Morgan and Kavon Waller led five Delaware State players in double figures with 18 points each. Waller was 5-for-10 from the field and matched his career-high with four 3-point field goals.
Aric Dickerson and Cahli Thomas chipped in with 12 points each. Dickerson also equaled his career-best with four 3-pointers, while Thomas’ point total marked his personal best as a Hornet.
Dana Raysor was the fifth DSU player in double-figures with 10 points.
Mrdjan Gasevic had nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds, including four offensive boards, to lead the Hornets.
Bernard topped all players with 27 points and 14 rebounds for Florida A&M. He was 12-for-15 from the floor, and also tallied six assists and five steals.
Justin Ravenal added 20 points for the Rattlers, highlighted by six 3-point field goals (6-of-13).
The Hornets will return to action on Saturday at home against UMES. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m., following the DSU/UMES women’s contest in Memorial Hall.

Late Second Half Run Gives Norfolk State Win over Maryland Eastern Shore
PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—A 13-1 run late in the game put the Norfolk State men's basketball team on top, and the Spartans finally hit their free throws to pull out a 76-70 win over UMES on Monday night at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.
The win improved the Spartans' record to 12-13 overall and 8-2 in the MEAC.
Senior Jeff Short led the Spartans with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Senior D’Shon Taylor and sophomore Jordan Butler each added 16 points, with Butler hitting 7-of-9 from the field with eight rebounds. Taylor, meanwhile, made 7-of-11 from the line and also posted eight boards, three steals and two assists.
Devin Martin had 20 points to lead UMES (8-17, 5-5), which had won four in a row coming into the night, including over league leader Hampton on Saturday. He hit five of the Hawks' 13 treys in the game. They finished 13-of-29 overall from long range, while the Spartans shot just 7-of-21.
Dontae Caldwell tallied 18 points for UMES on 4-of-6 3-point shooting, while Dominique Elliott also added 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Hawks shot 20-of-50 overall for the game (40.0-percent) and 17-of-24 from the charity stripe.
Norfolk State will head back home to host Morgan State on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Joseph Echols Hall.

Cooks' Late Three Lifts Pirates over Howard
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Lawrence Cooks’ 3-pointer with 43 seconds remaining helped the Hampton University men’s basketball team defeat rival Howard 68-65 Monday night at the Burr Gymnasium.
The Pirates improved to 14-9 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
Hampton has won each of its last 12 games against Howard.
Reginald Johnson, Jr. led three Pirates in double figures with 22 points, going 8-for-21 from the floor and grabbing nine rebounds. Quinton Chievous recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 17 rebounds, while Dionte Adams had 12 points and 10 boards.
Adams also had three blocks.
James Daniel, III led the Bison with 20 points.
The Pirates will return to the Convocation Center on Monday, Feb. 15, to take on Morgan State live on ESPNU.
