Tennis Recap: February 7

SSU Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 To Alabama A&M 

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Savannah State University women’s tennis team (0-5) fell to Alabama State 6-1 at Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Sunday.

The Lady Tigers recorded one doubles victory at the No. 1 doubles position with Sandy Lochu and Elizabeth Geronimo defeated ASU’s doubles team of Marine Catier and Arantxia Wijngaarde 7-6 (5), but lost at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles position to lose the doubles point and trail 1-0.

SSU’s doubles team of Jennyfer Vivas and Rachida Kateb fell to ASU’s doubles team of Gabriela Lackova and Nicole Tekelova 6-0 at the No. 2 doubles position, while SSU’s doubles team of Bria Burrows and Tiffany Williams fell to ASU’s doubles team of Patricia Regel and Irina Cvijovic 6-0 at the No. 3 doubles position.

The only singles win for the Lady Tigers came at the No. 2 singles position with Geronimo defeated Lackova 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).  Lochu fell to Wijngaarde 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position, while Kateb fell to Tekelova 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position.

Geronimo has won her last three singles matches at the No. 2 position and has gone 1-1 in doubles with Lochu over the last two doubles matches.

Vivas fell to Regel 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles position, while Burrows fell to Cvijovic 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position and Williams fell to Matabe Akoachere 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles position to give the Lady Hornets the five-point win.

Bethune-Cookman Competes Hard in Weekend Matches

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman men concluded a three-match on three-day run Sunday with a 4-3 loss to the College of Charleston Sunday at City Island Tennis Center. Walid Gtari, Jose Plazas and Greg Almeida posted singles wins for the Wildcats (2-4).

In women’s tennis action, Bethune-Cookman (1-3) dropped a 7-0 decision to FIU (3-1) Sunday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla.
