FAMU Lady Netters Breeze Past Albany State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The FAMU Women’s Tennis team captured their first win of the early Spring schedule Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 match victory over Albany (Ga.) State at the FAMU Tennis Courts.

FAMU (1-3) won all of the singles and doubles in straight sets, capturing two of the doubles matchups by 6-0 counts, and three of the singles bouts by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Women’s Tennis Falls Short to Alabama A&M

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Savannah State University women’s tennis team (0-4) fell to Alabama A&M 4-3 in Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Saturday.

The Lady Tigers lost the doubles point to go down 1-0 after SSU’s doubles team of Sandy Lochu and Elizabeth Geronimo fell to AAMU’s doubles team of Virag Hollos and Rida Khalid 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles position and SSU’s doubles team of Rachida Kateb and Jennyfer Vivas fell to AAMU’s doubles team of Orianna Rodriguez/Shrarre Smith 6-2 at the No. 2 doubles position.  SSU did win at the No. 3 doubles position with Bria Burrows and Tiffany Williams winning by default since Alabama A&M did not have enough players to fill the final doubles position.

The Lady Tigers won at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles position.  Geronimo defeated Anushka Sathe 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles position, while Kateb defeated Rodriguez 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 3 singles position and Williams won by default at the No. 6 singles position as Alabama A&M did not have enough players to fill the final singles position.

Sandy Lochu fell to Hollos 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position, while Vivas fell to Smith 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles position and Burrows fell to Khalid 6-1, 6-0 to capture the one-point victory.

The Lady Tigers continue in Montgomery with host Alabama State Sunday at 10 a.m. before heading to Orangeburg, S.C., to face South Carolina State for their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
