NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State junior Chasney Jenkins was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s Zadisha Young-Waddell earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate Janika May was named Pitcher of the Week.
Jenkins (LF, 5-11, Jr., East Moline, Ill.) was 6-for-12 (.500) in five games, with five runs scored, three RBIs, one double, one triple and one home run at the Charleston Southern Tournament. She registered a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage in the tournament.
Young-Waddell (DP/P, 5-8, Fr., Troy, N.C.) batted. 667 against Fairleigh Dickinson and Boston, with six RBIs, four runs scored and two home runs. She went 3-for-4, with one double and one home run in a 12-5 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Janika May (P, 5-7, Sr., Beach Park, Ill.) pitched a complete-game victory over Elon. She scattered five hits in seven innings, surrendered one earned run, and fanned three in the 4-1 win.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) batted .455 (5-for-11), with one triple, five runs scored and five RBIs, against Lafayette and UMBC.
Adrienne Guerra (UMES) finished with 12 strikeouts in 16.0 innings against Lafayette and UMBC.
Amanda Hallman (SSU) pitched 18.2 innings during three games at the Charleston Southern Tournament with 10 strikeouts.
Sandy Hawthorne (DSU) went 10-for-18, with seven RBIs and one double at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
Cortni Jones (SSU) batted .333 (5-for-16) with one run scored and four RBIs at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
Kylee Lopez (NSU) went 1-for-3, with one home run, three RBIs and one run scored, against George Washington.
Kiana Peterson (UMES) went 1-for-3 and drove in two, with one home run, in a loss to Lafayette.
Brianna Sanders (B-CU) batted .462 (6-for-13), with one home run, four runs batted in and two runs scored in five games.
