Williams Paces Bethune-Cookman to 62-50 win over NCCU
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kailyn Williams scored 21 points -- her second straight game with 20 or more - -and Bethune-Cookman snapped a two-game losing streak with a 62-50 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over North Carolina Central Saturday afternoon.
The junior center scored 13 third-quarter points as the Lady Wildcats (16-11 overall, 10-4 MEAC) overcame a 27-percent shooting effort in the first half and pulled away from a 31-31 tie.
Kendra Cooper added 14 points– including a trio of three-pointers and dished out seven assists for Bethune-Cookman, which shot 51.9 percent (14-27) from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Morgan Jones led North Carolina Central with 15.
The win closed B-CU to a half-game of North Carolina A&T State for the second seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. The teams play here Monday night.

SSU’s Davis Sets Rebound School Record In Win Over South Carolina State
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior center Tiyonda Davis led SSU 13 rebounds to give her 692 career rebounds, which sets a rebounding school record in the Division I era as the Savannah State University women’s basketball team (9-16, 6-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) defeated South Carolina State University (11-14, 7-8 MEAC) in Tiger Arena Saturday afternoon, where the Lady Tigers never trailed in the game.
Davis passed Vanessa Thon, who recorded 684 rebounds from 2001-04. The Athens, Ga., native also led SSU with four blocks and added seven points on 2-for-4 shooting and a steal. The four blocks gives her 69 blocks this season, which moves her into third place in school history for a single season and needs five rebounds to move into second place.
Junior forward Jeremica Edwards added eight points on 4-for-8 shooting with seven rebounds, while sophomore Lauryn Fields added eight points and four assists and sophomore Jada Young added seven rebounds and four points on 2-for-3 shooting.
Brittany Drumgoole led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points and three steals, while Jasmine Coleman recorded a game-high 14 rebounds and seven blocks and Ashleigh Outler and Amber Howard each added seven points.
The Lady Tigers travel to Durham, N.C., to face North Carolina Central (4-21, 2-12 MEAC) Monday at 6 p.m. before returning home for the final regular season game of the season against Florida A&M Thursday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.

Willis Has Career Night As Hampton Defeats Howard
HAMPTON, Va. – Freshman guard K’lynn Willis led four players in double figures with a career night on Saturday at the HU Convocation Center, as the Hampton University women’s basketball team defeated Howard 77-48.
The Lady Pirates improved to 13-14 overall and 11-3 in MEAC play.
Willis scored a career-high 31 points on 11-for-22 shooting, while also going 7-for-10 from the free throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds and four steals. Junior guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas added 16 points and a team-high 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
Sophomore forward Kaylah Lupoe and freshman guard Dejane’ James each added 10 points.
Victoria Gonzales led the Bison with 11 points.
The Lady Pirates will hold their home finale on Monday at 5 p.m. against Delaware State.

Maryland Eastern Shore Holds On For Senior Day Win
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – On a day where the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball Team honored five Lady Hawks for the final time inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center, the squad held on to knock off rival Delaware State (DSU), 54-49.
UMES (11-16, 9-6 MEAC) picked up their fifth consecutive victory for the first time in seven seasons.
Both clubs struggled from the field as neither team scored 20 points in a period until the fourth. Despite not making a trey ball throughout the entire game, Maryland Eastern Shore scored 37-percent of the offense from the charity stripe as they took 39 freebies.
Freshman guard Ciani Byrom had a game-high 19 points, including 11 points after intermission. The North Carolina native also registered seven dimes and three thefts, both career-highs.
For Delaware State (8-19, 5-9 MEAC), multiple Hornets dealt with foul trouble as they racked up 31 infractions. Mikah Aldridge was the lone player in double-figures with 10 points. Nikkei Blackburn posted a game-high 12 rebounds in a losing effort.
On March 3, Maryland Eastern Shore ends the regular season in Baltimore where the Morgan State Lady Bears await. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the men approximately 30 minutes afterward.
