Bethune-Cookman Falls To Mercer, Defeats Savannah State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After a 5-2 non-conference loss to Mercer, Bethune-Cookman opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Savannah State Saturday afternoon.

Two-time player of the year Mina Matsuba remained unbeaten in regular season conference matches (13 singles matches, 10 doubles) as the Lady Wildcats (2-6 overall, 1-0 MEAC) won their 14th regular season conference match dating back to 2013.

Alejandra Vidal, who registered the lone singles victory against Mercer, improved to 5-3 in singles play and 6-2 in doubles with her four wins on the day.

Matsuba, Makea Roki and Ancia Ifill also took two doubles matches on the day.

James Madison knocks off Hampton

NORFOLK, Va.. -- The Hampton University women's tennis team took on in-state foe James Madison on Saturday evening at Old Dominion University's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center and lost a 7-0 decision to the Dukes.


JMU (6-3) won all three doubles matches to take the doubles pointas Julia d'Auvergne and Cherise Slocombe fell 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.


In singles, a pair of matches went to three sets as Slocombe lost at No. 2 singles 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6,  Mikaela Pierce dropped a three-set match at No. 3 to Kimmy Herrock 2-6, 6-3, 0-6.
Hampton (0-2) returns to action on March 6 against Florida A&M in Orlando, Florida.
