MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN?S AND WOMEN?S TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Benedikt Henning was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Athlete and Rookie of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central’s Aissa Muamba earned the Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, while Hampton’s Cherise Slocombe garnered the Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Henning (Fr., Bad Hersfeld, Germany) completed a perfect week by winning at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles against James Madison. He defeated Robert Sterling, at the No. 2 singles position, 6-4, 7-6(8). In doubles action, he helped the Spartans with a 7-5 victory.

Muamba (Sr., Laval Canada) went 1-0 in road matches in singles and doubles action. She defeated Campbell’s Irina Karangozishvili, 6-0, 6-4, at the No. 1 position and teamed with Jamie Rogers to win a 6-4 decision at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Slocombe (Fr., Barbados) registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory in her first collegiate match at the No. 2 singles position against Delaware State. She also teamed with Julia d’Auvergne for a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles spot.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Dajana Cvjetkovic (NSU) defeated Katie Carlson, of Christopher Newport, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles spot.

Marta Gomar (NSU) earned a singles win and a doubles victory against Christopher Newport.

Mariam Mitaishvili (HAM) posted a 6-3, 6-3 win, at the No. 1 singles position, in the MEAC opener against Delaware State.
