Lady Hawks Knock Off FAMU For Fourth Straight Win
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Despite not having their best offensive performance, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball Team clamped down on the defensive end and contained the conference’s top offensive to 29-percent (15-of-51) from the floor. Thus, the Lady Hawks defeated Florida A&M (FAMU), 61-47, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
With the victory, Maryland Eastern Shore (10-16, 8-6 MEAC) picked up their fourth consecutive win and extended its longest winning streak of the season. Also, the Lady Hawks snapped a five-game skid against FAMU.
Guards Keyera Eaton (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Moengaroa Subritzky (Auckland, New Zealand) led the way, combining for 25 points. Subritzky registered a team-high 13 points and four dimes while Eaton chipped in 12 points and two thefts.
FAMU (14-12, 8-5 MEAC) came in as the league’s top scoring offense, averaging more than 64 points-per-game (PPG). Tonight, the Rattlers were held to their second-lowest output of the season (47). Antilla and Khadejra Young entered as the third and sixth top scorers in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), respectively. Both ladies combined for 23 points on 7-of-22 shooting.

Hampton Moves Into First place Tie After Win At Delaware State
DOVER, Del. – Points were at a premium for much of the game Monday evening in Memorial Hall, but the Hampton University women’s basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to defeat Delaware State 63-54.
The Lady Pirates improved to 12-14 overall and 10-3 in MEAC play.
Freshman guard K’lynn Willis led the Lady Pirates with a career-high 22 points on 6-for-17 shooting and an 8-for-11 effort at the free throw line. Junior guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas struggled for much of the game, but still scored 17 points. Sophomore forward Mikayla Sayle came off the bench to grab a team-high eight rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 32.2 percent (19-for-59) from the floor – including a 41.4 percent clip (12-for-29) in the second half – despite making just three of their 20 3-pointers. Hampton went 22-for-29 (75.9 percent) from the free throw line.
Delaware State (8-18, 5-8 MEAC) shot 34.0 percent (17-for-50) from the floor but made just four of its 13 3-pointers. The Hornets held a 42-34 edge on the glass. NaJai Pollard led the Hornets with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Coppin State Takes Road Win At Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State struggled to a season-low 24 percent shooting and dropped its third straight game, 56-47, to Coppin State on Monday night at Echols Hall.
Omaah Tayong led Coppin State (11-15, 8-6 MEAC) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Dominique Harper and Alexys Long scored eight points apiece to pace the Spartans (2-22, 2-12). Shayla Tanner grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for the Spartans and blocked three shots.
NSU hit just 18-of-74 from the field, 2-of-19 from 3-point range (10.5 percent), and 9-of-19 (47 percent) from the free-throw line.
Janelle Lane scored 11 points and Keena Samuels 10 for CSU.

Howard Falls To South Carolina State
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Howard University got a balanced scoring attack as four players finished in double figures but it was Amber Howard who proved to be the difference as South Carolina State edged Howard, 65-63 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s game at Burr Gymnasium.
The Bison (5-21, 3-11 in the MEAC) led most of the game until the Lady Bulldogs made a late push to tie the game at 55 with four minutes left.
Howard, who finished with a game-high 17 hit a big three pointer and then nailed two free throws during a 40-second span.
Imani Bailey finished with 15 and 5 rebounds, Jasmine Hill and Victoria Gonzales with a double double (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Te’Shya Heslip with 10 points and 8 assists.
