MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Dante Holmes of North Carolina Central was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Devin Morgan, of Delaware State, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina Central’s Kyle Benton was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Holmes (G, 6-3, 190, Sr., Baltimore, Md.) averaged 22.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steal against Florida A&M, Coppin State and Morgan State. He registered a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, with one assist and one steal, in the 79-74 win over Florida A&M.

Morgan (G, 5-11, 180, Fr., Chester, Va.) finished with 22 points, two rebounds, six assists and two steals, in wins over Coppin State and Norfolk State. He scored 10 points, including three 3-pointers, in the 71-67 win over Coppin State.

Benton (F, 6-7, 230, Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) totaled 21 rebounds, four blocks and four steals against Florida A&M, Coppin State and Morgan State. He grabbed a career-high three blocks, with one steal, against Coppin State. Offensively, he finished the week with 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting.

 

Other Top Performers

Malcolm Bernard (FAMU) averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists against Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central.

Jordan Butler (NSU) posted 14 points, including 12 from the free-throw line, eight rebounds and six blocks, against Delaware State.

James Daniel, III (HOW) became Howard’s all-time leading scorer with 1,755 points after scoring a game-high 38 points in the win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Eric Eaves (SCSU) registered 15 points, one rebound, two assists and one steal, in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Dominique Elliott (UMES) notched a double-double of 10 points and 19 rebounds, with one block, one assist and one steal, against Howard.

Jordan Potts (B-CU) scored 21 points, including five in overtime, in an 83-78 win over North Carolina A&T State.

Trevon Seymore (CSU) averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals against Delaware State and North Carolina Central.

LaRon Smith (B-CU) scored a career-high 20 points, with 11 rebounds, one assist and three blocks, in an overtime victory against North Carolina A&T State.

Tyler Stone (HOW) totaled 20 points, 13 rebounds, one block and two steals against Maryland Eastern Shore and Savannah State.

D’Shon Taylor (NSU) shot 60-percent (6-of-10) from the field for 15 points against Delaware State.

Kavon Waller (DSU) came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points, with seven rebounds and two assists, in a win over Norfolk State.
