MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Maryland Eastern Shore freshman Ciani Byrom was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. NaJai Pollard, of Delaware State, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman’s Kailyn Williams was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.

Byrom (G, 5-5, Fr., Winston-Salem, N.C.) shot 50-percent (13-of-26) from the floor and 82-percent (14-of-17) from free-throw line, in wins over Howard and South Carolina State. She recorded career-highs in points (27) and assists (6), along with three rebounds, in a 79-57 victory over Howard.

Pollard (F, 5-11, Fr., Richmond, Va.) totaled 43 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, six blocks and four steals, against Coppin State and Norfolk State. She posted her fifth double-double of the season, 26 points and 12 rebounds, with five assists, four blocks and one steal, against Coppin State.

Williams (C, 6-4, Jr., New Orleans, La.)  averaged 11.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks against North Carolina A&T State and Florida A&M. She registered 13 boards and six blocks against North Carolina A&T State. Offensively, Williams totaled 34 points in the two conference games.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Imani Bailey (HOW) recorded 16 points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jasmine Coleman (SCSU) registered a career-high 18 rebounds, eight points and one block, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Brehanna Daniels (NSU) posted a career-high 16 points and eight rebounds against Delaware State.

Tiyonda Davis (SSU) was perfect from the field (5-of-5) to finish with 10 points and 12 rebounds, in a win against Howard.

Taryana Kelly (UMES) grabbed 12 rebounds and added nine points in a 61-55 win over South Carolina State.

Kaylah Lupoe (HAM) tallied 25 points, on 11-for-14 shooting, six rebounds and one block, against Coppin State.

Jordan Swails (CSU) totaled 43 points, 22 rebounds, seven assists, one block and 10 steals, against Delaware State, North Carolina Central and Hampton.

Malia Tate-DeFreitas (HAM) recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, with three assists, one block and four steals, against Coppin State.

Caprisha Treadwell (SSU) posted a career-high 10 points, six boards, one assist and three blocks, in a win against Howard.

Khaderja Young (FAMU) averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 4.0 steals, in wins over Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central.
