Savannah State falls at home to Missouri

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women’s tennis (0-7) fell to Missouri University (9-1) 7-0 Friday morning at the Tiger Tennis Courts.

The Lady Tigers lost the doubles point by losing at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.  Freshman Rachida Kateb and junior Jennyfer Vivas fell to Missouri’s doubles duo of Brianna Lashwway and Cassidy Spearman 6-0 at the No. 2 doubles position, while junior Bria Burrows and Tiffany Williams fell to Mizzou’s doubles duo of Brittany Lashway and Clare Raley 6-1 at the No. 3 doubles position.

Junior Sandy Lochu and Elizabeth Geronimo were leading 4-2 against MU’s doubles duo of Kelli Hine and Bea Machado Santos 4-2 when the match was called since Missouri had already won the doubles point.

The Lady Tigers lost all six singles matches in straight sets, but Geronimo came the closes to force a third set.  The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic fell 6-3 to Hine in the first set and fell 7-5 in the second set at the No. 2 singles position.  Lochu fell 6-1, 6-0 to Santos at the No. 1 singles position, while Kateb fell to Brianna Lashway 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 singles position.

Spearman defeated Burrows 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles position, while Vivas fell to Brittany Lashway 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 5 singles position and Williams fell to Raley 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position.

The Lady Tigers continue Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a trip to Daytona Beach, Fla., to face Bethune-Cookman University (1-4) on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
