NCCU Out-dueled From Long Range by Coppin State

BALTIMORE, Md. – Though North Carolina Central University and Coppin State University both made 22 field goals, CSU dropped a stunning 12 three-pointers to hold off NCCU for a 71-60 win at the Physical Education Complex on Thursday, Feb. 18.

NCCU (10-16, 5-7) just couldn't find the shooting touch in the first period of play after they made just seven of its 25 shots, and spent eight full minutes without recording a field goal.

CSU (7-19, 5-8) took a long distance approach in the first half by knocking down four out of nine treys to create separation, led by Joshua Treadwell.  Treadwell accounted for two of the three-pointers made, totaling 10 points and five rebounds at the break, with CSU in front 29-18.

A couple of triples from Rashaun Madison early in the second half cut the lead down to single digits for NCCU.  The margin would stretch and contract like an accordion for the majority of the second half, but CSU was able to keep NCCU away to record the win.

Most of the work for CSU was done by Christian Kessee who was responsible for 21 points and five made treys.  Terry Harris, Jr. came in with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards to boost the team.

Dante Holmes was a major force in the second half knocking down 17 of his game-high 24 points, and Kyle Benton chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  For Holmes, it was his fourth-straight game with 20+ points, stretching back to the game against North Carolina A&T State on Feb. 6.

Patrick Cole collected 10 points and seven rebounds in his return to Coppin State as well.

NCCU will stay in Baltimore to face Morgan State on Saturday, Feb. 20.
