NORFOLK, Va. – Florida A&M’s Toni Anderson was selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Deidra Genera earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while teammate Brianna Sanders earned Rookie of the Week.
Anderson (1B, 5-10, So., Dothan, Ala.) registered a .583 batting average in four games over the weekend. She finished with seven hits, including two doubles and two home runs, as the Lady Rattlers went 3-1. Also, she drove in eight and scored twice.
Genera (P, 5-5, Fr., Norwalk, Calif.) earned three wins in five games over the weekend. She posted a 0.70 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched and struck out 18, including seven looking.
Sanders (SS, 5-7, So., San Marcos, Calif.) went 8-for-17 at the plate, including a 3-for-4 performance against Morgan State, over the weekend. She recorded four doubles and one triple, while batting .471 in five games.
Other Top Performers:
Allison Anderson (UMES) recorded four hits, including one double, and drove in four, against Coppin State and North Carolina A&T State.
Adrienne Guerra (UMES) fanned 11 batters in 10.0 innings against Coppin State and North Carolina A&T State.
Chasney Jenkins (SSU) batted .538 during five games at the Inaugural Lady Tiger Classic, with five runs scored and four RBIs.
Kasie Johnson (SSU) tossed a two-hit shutout, with two strikeouts and one walk, in a win over Drexel.
Kenya Pereira (FAMU) struck out 14 batters in 13.0 innings against Southern Miss and Belmont.
Iesha Waters (B-CU) batted .467 in five games, with seven hits, including three doubles, and scored five times.
