NSU Takes Doubles Point In Loss To George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Norfolk State women's tennis team won the doubles point after taking two of the three matches, but George Washington earned victories in all six singles matches in a 6-1 win over the Spartans on Sunday afternoon at the Southeast Tennis Center.

NSU (0-3) won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches over the Colonials (3-1), including a tiebreaker victory at the second spot to secure the doubles point. There, seniors Andrea Macchiavello and Mafalda Lhorca won the tiebreaker by a 7-4 score to win the match, 7-6, against Sara Grubac and Marie-Louise Decamps.

At the third slot, junior Liza Gordeeva and freshman Marta Gomar defeated Teodora Radosavljevic and Victoria Kogan, 7-5. That came after the Colonials won at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, where Taylor Nederlander and Allison Hansen defeated junior Ana Popovic and sophomore Dajana Cvjetkovic.

Gordeeva came closest to winning in singles for NSU. At the fourth spot in the lineup, she won the first set over Decamps, 6-3, before her Colonial opponent won the second set, 6-2, and the third-set tiebreaker, 10-6. At No. 6 singles, Lhorca dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Kogan.

In the top two positions, No. 111 ranked Radosavljevic knocked off Cvjetkovic, 6-2 and 6-3, at the No. 1 spot, while Gomar fell to Lana Robins at No. 2 singles, 6-2 and 6-2. Grubac downed Macchiavello at the third position, 6-2 and 6-3, while Nederlander earned a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Popovic at the fifth slot.
