Heslip leads Howard To Second Straight Win
BALTIMORE, Md. -Te’Sha Heslip scored finished with a team-high 19 points to lead five players in double figures, including the game-winning basket to lead Howard to a 71-69 come-from-behind win over Coppin State at the Physical Education Complex. The Bison (5-18, 3-7 in the MEAC) won for the second time a row for the first this season.
Heslip, who was coming off her first career triple double in a win over Hampton on Monday, rallied her team from an 11-point deficit in the third period as she and Jasmine Hill combined for 16 of their team’s 22 points. The run cut the deficit to 55-53 headed into the fourth quarter.
The two teams went toe to toe as Erin Blaine, Hill and Heslip made sure that the Eagles (7-15, 4-6 in the MEAC) would not sweep them.
Hill nailed a big three pointer that tied the game at 69 with 40 seconds remaining. That is when the junior guard came up with the deciding basket. Howard spread the floor and allowed Heslip to execute the play.
Coppin State had a chance to tie or win bt the Bison defense forced two bad shots and Blaine corralled the rebound as the clock ran out and Howard escaped with the win.
Coppin State was led by Omaah Tayong (19 points, 11 rebounds), Janelle Lane (13 points, 13 rebounds) Amber Griffin (11 points) paced them.

Morgan State Holds Off Pesky Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. - Lexus Spears has a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds and made the go-ahead layup with 48 seconds left as visiting Morgan State outlasted Norfolk State 59-56 on Saturday afternoon at Echols Hall.
Koryn Lawrence scored 13 points and Brehanna Daniels 10 to lead NSU (2-20 overall, 2-10 MEAC).
Trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, the Spartans (2-20 overall, 2-10 MEAC) mounted a 17-3 run to tie the ballgame with 56 seconds left in the game. Daniels and Lawrence combined to score all but two points in the run. Daniels buried a 3-pointer from the right wing to cut NSU's deficit to three, than less than a minute later, she converted a traditional three-point play to tie the score at 54-all with 56 seconds left.
But Morgan State, which had trouble with NSU's full-court defense in the final period, broke the pressure after Daniels tied the game. That led to an uncontested layup by Spears at the other end with 48 seconds remaining. Lawrence missed a jumper at the other end, and MSU widened its lead as Spears hit one free throw and Danielle Robinson two more to make it 59-55 with 12 seconds remaining.
Danielle Robinson led MSU with 14 points as five Bears scored in double figures.

Bethune-Cookman Rolls Past North Carolina Central
DURHAM, N.C. – Forward Tisha Dixon scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out three assists while guard Kristin Askew tallied seven points, two assists and one steal to highlight their Senior Day for North Carolina Central University in a 63-46 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss to Bethune-Cookman University Saturday afternoon in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Bethune-Cookman (15-9 Overall, 9-2 MEAC) got 14-point performances from a duo of freshmen in Ashantii Hunt and Angel Golden.
NCCU (4-17, 2-8) trailed from the onset despite 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds from Dixon.
Maryland Eastern Shore Pulls Away from Delaware State
DOVER, Del. - Despite maintaining a five-point lead after two quarters, the Delaware State women's basketball team (7-16, 4-6 MEAC) saw its halftime advantage disperse in the third quarter Saturday afternoon at home, thanks to the UMES Hawks (7-16, 4-6 MEAC) scoring 30 points on 67 percent (12-of-18) shooting on their way to pulling out a 70-61 win.
With this loss, DSU dropped its third consecutive game for the third time this season, in addition to moving to 1-4 against the Hawks in its last five tries. UMES, meanwhile, snapped a two-game slide to pick up its first win since defeating Howard at home on Feb. 1, 62-59.
At game's end, Moengaroa Subritzky poured in 16 of her game-high 21 points (7-of-16) in the second half, whereas Ciana Byrom dropped 18 of her 20 points (7-of-13) in the second stanza as well. For DSU, N’Kayah Kersey (5-of-8) and guard Mikah Aldridge (5-of-16) scored 14 points each, whereas forward NaJai Pollard was held to just eight points (3-of-8) and seven boards in 21 minutes of action before fouling out.

Savannah State Falls To South Carolina State
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Savannah State University women’s basketball team (7-16, 4-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to South Carolina State University (10-12, 6-6 MEAC) 56-43 Saturday in the S-H-M Memorial Center.
Junior forward Jeremica Edwards came off the bench and scored 13 points to lead all scorers and added five rebounds, while junior center Tiyonda Davis added a game-high 13 rebounds with six points and three blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jasmine Coleman with 11 points and six rebounds, while Ashleigh Outler added nine points, Toni Grier added eight points and six rebounds.
