HAMPTON, Va. – Through the S.A.I.L.L.S. (Student-Athletes Involved in Leadership, Learning, & Service) program, Hampton University student-athletes participated in Jump Rope For Heart this past Monday through Wednesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newport News.
This marked the eighth straight year in which Pirates and Lady Pirates have jumped rope with children, all the way from the pre-K level to fifth graders.
Members of the football, women’s track & field, women’s golf, softball, volleyball, and women’s tennis teams participated.
According to Diane Wallace from St. Andrews, more than $3,200 was raised. “It is through (the student-athletes’ involvement) that this was possible,” she said in a letter written to the school. “By promoting physical activity and community service, you provided an exemplary model for these young, impressionable minds.”
