NCCU Finishes 10th in NCAA Community Service Competition

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University student-athletes completed more than 2,200 hours of community service in the fall of 2015, which earned them a spot in the top 25 of all participating institutions in the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition, placing 10th overall and seventh among Division I schools.

NCCU football was ranked No. 1 out of all participating NCAA football teams, and NCCU’s men’s tennis was fifth in their sport category.

NCCU graduating senior Darius James, an offensive lineman from Shallotte, North Carolina, was recognized as the Top Male Student-Athlete for having completed more an 85 hours in 16 events.

The NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition tracks service hours through the Helper Helper app and online portal, provides a team-by-team breakdown, and rewards top performers of the more than 100 NCAA participating institutions.

In three months and 46 states, student-athletes in the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition for fall of 2015 completed 71,526 hours of community service with an estimated impact of $1.6 million.
