FORT MYERS, Fla. — A 20-6 fourth quarter for the home standing Florida Gulf Coast Eagles proved to be the difference as Hampton drops a 60-49 decision in the opening game of the Hilton Garden Inn Florida Gulf Coast Classic on Thursday night.

Monnazjea Finney-Smith had her first double-double on the year with 15 points and a season-high 11 rebounds to lead Hampton. Chanel Green added a season high 10 points, a career-best six rebounds and tied her career best with two blocked shots. Adria Strothers and Malia Tate-DeFreitas added six points apiece for Hampton.

Towson 61, Norfolk State 58

TOWSON, Md. — The Norfolk State women's basketball team fell to 5-7 after suffering a 61-58 loss to Towson on Thursday night at the SECU Arena. Freshman forward De'Janaire Deas' 3-pointer from the left corner was no good just as the horn sounded, securing the comeback victory for the Tigers (7-4).

Senior guard Kiara Phillips led the Spartans with 15 points. She nailed two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Spartans tried to hold off Towson.

Dominique Harper joined Phillips in double-figures, with 12 points. Harper and Phillips recorded three steals each.
