SAVANNAH, Ga. — Senior guard Kenyata Hendrix became the third Savannah State University women’s basketball student-athlete in the Division I era to record her 1,000th career point as the Lady Tigers fell to No. 6 University of South Carolina 70-30 in Tiger Arena Wednesday. 

Hendrix joins Ezinne Kalu (2,045 points) and Jasmine Norman (1,029 points) to be the only three to reach the milestone in the Division I era.  The Carrollton, Ga., native recorded a team-high 15 points with four rebounds.

Senior guard Rhianna Warren added five points, while senior center Tiyonda Davis added five rebounds and two points.

Virginia 60, Maryland Eastern Shore 50

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Despite a 20-point effort from guard Moengaroa Subritzky, Coach Fred Batchelor and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women’s Basketball team were defeated by Virginia (UVA), 60-50, inside the John Paul Jones Arena. With the setback, Eastern Shore saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

A handful of Hawks were able to score, led by Subritzky’s game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field.

Other notable Hawk performances included sophomore guard Ciani Byrom, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, posting 16 points, four dimes, three steals, and two boards. Fellow classmate Keyera Eaton added eight points and a team-high six rebounds in the loss.

UNC Greensboro 59, Norfolk State 52

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Norfolk State women’s basketball team surrendered a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter and suffered a 59-52 defeat to UNC Greensboro at Fleming Gym on Wednesday night. The Spartans fell to 5-6 on the season, while the Spartans of UNCG improved to 7-6.

Kayla Roberts finished with 15 points and six rebounds to lead NSU. She also registered three blocks, three steals and one assist.

Jordan Strode and Dominique Harper joined Roberts in double figures. Strode tallied 11 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Harper totaled 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
