MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va.Hampton senior Kaylah Lupoe and Howard red-shirt senior Te’Shya Heslip were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Howard’s Imani Bryant earned Rookie of the Week honors, while NaJai Pollard, of Delaware State was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Lupoe (F, 6-2, Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) shot 62-percent from the floor (8-for-13) to finish with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Temple. Also, she registered one block and one steal in the win.

Heslip (G, 5-5, r-Sr., Dumfries, Va.) recorded her seventh double-digit point total of the season in a rout over Mount Saint Mary’s. She finished with 18 points, on 6-of-12 shooting, eight assists, five steals and four rebounds.

Bryant (F, 6-1, Fr., Berkeley, Calif.) posted nine points, on 4-of-7 shooting (57-percent), three blocks and one steal in a victory over Mount Saint Mary’s. Also, she recorded her third consecutive game with double-digit rebounds with 11.

Pollard (F, 5-11, So., Richmond, Va.) tallied 10 rebounds and tied a career-high with five blocks in 37 minutes of action against New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Offensively, she notched 15 points and three assists in the contest.

 

Other Top Performers

Ashley Bates (HAM) sank two free throws in the final 30 seconds, and added seven points and three boards, to help Hampton defeat Temple.

Ciani Byrom (MDES) finished with 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and tied a career-high three steals, in a win against Mount Saint Mary’s.

Jihayah Chavis (MSU) recorded 15 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds in a 69-61 victory over UMBC.

Braennan Farrar (MSU) registered 22 points, four assists and four blocks in a 69-61 win over UMBC.

Tiara Goode (CSU) tallied 15 points, including five 3-pointers, seven rebounds, two steals and one block against Syracuse.

Syndi Johnson (HOW) posted 21 points, a season-high nine rebounds, three assists and one block, in a win over Mount Saint Mary’s.

Mariah McCoy (MDES) shot 50-percent (6-for-12) from the floor to finish with 15 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in a win over Mount Saint Mary’s.
