COLUMBIA, S.C. – Hampton University forced 26 Saint Peter’s turnovers and converted them into 36 points as the Lady Pirates scored their first win of the season defeating Saint Peter’s 71-42 in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge.
Hampton was paced by Malia Tate-DeFreitas with a season-high 28 points and four steals. She went over the 2,000-career point mark on a reverse layup with 3:32 left in the first period.
Joining her in double figures was K’lynn Willis with a season-high 16 and Monnazjea Finney-Smith with 10. Hampton had season-highs in steals (15) and blocks (10). As a team, the Lady Pirates were 25-of-69 from the floor (36.2 percent), 6-of-14 from 3-point land (42.9 percent) and 15-of-23 from the line (65.2 percent).

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Ciani Byrom and senior Mariah McCoy combined for 43 points, but their efforts were not enough as Maryland Eastern Shore fell to North Carolina State (NC State), 77-58, inside the Reynolds Coliseum.
McCoy had a game-high 24 points after shooting 75-percent (6-of-8) from beyond the arc. Byrom added 19 points, six dimes, and four boards in a losing effort.
The Shore outrebounded NC State, 41-39, led by Tori Morris and Moengaroa Subritzky. Both Hawks registered a team-high eight rebounds each.
