MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY WOMEN?S BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. Delaware State sophomore NaJai Pollard was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central’s Erin Houser earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Tiyonda Davis, of Savannah State, was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Pollard (F, 5-11, So., Richmond, Va.) shot 78.8 percent (29-of-33) from the field against Lehigh and Wagner. She averaged a double-double of 32.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in the two games, with 3.0 blocks. Pollard shot 14-of-17 from the floor and 10-of-15 from the charity stripe to finish with 38 points, 12 boards and one block against Lehigh. Her 38 points was the seventh-best single-game total in team history.

Houser (F, 6-2, Fr., Orangeburg, S.C.) totaled 25 points, six rebounds and one steal against Coastal Carolina and Johnson & Wales. She scored a season-high 19 points, with three rebounds and one steal, in a lopsided win over Johnson & Wales.

Davis (C, 6-4, Sr., Athens, Ga.) finished with nine rebounds, six blocks and two steals in a victory over Alabama State. Her six blocks was the second time she has achieved that mark this season. Offensively, she tallied 11 points, on 4-of-6 shooting, against the Lady Hornets.

 

Other Top Performers

Ciani Byrom (MDES) registered 19 points, including four 3-pointers, nine assists, six points, two steals and one block in a 70-57 win over UMBC.

Chance Graham (CSU) averaged 5.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 steals against George Washington and No. 21 West Virginia.

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) finished with 17 points, three rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist in a win over Alabama State.

Te’Shya Heslip (HOW) recorded 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals against No. 21 West Virginia.

Morgan Jones (NCCU) totaled 30 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and one assist against Coastal Carolina and Johnson & Wales.

Tyona Moss (NSU) finished with 14 points and two rebounds, in eight minutes, against Saint Augustine’s.

Florence Ouattara (FAMU) tallied 19 points, four boards, four steals and two assists against Marshall.

Kayla Roberts (NSU) recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, with five assists, three blocks and one steal, in a win over Saint Augustine’s.

Keena Samuels (CSU) averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.0 assists against George Washington and No. 21 West Virginia.

Jordan Strode (NSU) posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, with five assists, two steals and one block against Saint Augustine’s.
