PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Maria Yvette Garcia finished one dig shy of a double-double as Florida A&M advanced to Saturday’s semifinal round of the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Tournament at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Florida A&M (16-11) will await the winner of the Maryland Eastern Shore/North Carolina A&T State match at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Garcia registered a match-high 20 kills, nine digs and one block as she hit .531 in the three sets. Elena Dimitrova posted a double-double of 35 assists and 10 digs, while teammate Valentina Carrasco added 10 digs.
Jessica Johnson paced Norfolk State with eight kills, and eclipsed the 1,000-career kill plateau in her final collegiate match. Teammate Jill Aquino added 12 assists.
Norfolk State concludes its season with a 7-20 overall record.
